Dental Implants

Dental ImplantDental implants are a long-lasting way to replace missing teeth. An implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone, which acts like a tooth root. Once healed, a crown is attached to it — giving you a tooth that looks, feels, and works just like the real thing.

Why choose an implant?
Implants are strong, stable, and can last for many years if you care for them well. They don’t rely on surrounding teeth for support like bridges do, and they help maintain bone in the jaw.

When are implants used?

  • To replace a single missing tooth
  • To support a bridge when several teeth are missing
  • To secure a full or partial denture

What’s the process?

First, your dentist will do a full check-up, including X-rays, to see if implants are a good option for you. If so, you’ll be referred to a Oral surgeon who places the implant. Once it’s healed and stable your dentist will fit the crown or other restoration on top.

Is everyone suitable for implants?
Not always. You need enough healthy bone to support the implant. Gum disease or bone loss may rule them out — this is why X-rays are so important. Smoking also increases the risk of implant failure and slows healing, so it’s strongly recommended to quit before treatment.

Caring for your implant
Just like real teeth, implants need daily brushing and flossing. Infection can still happen if plaque builds up around the gums. Regular hygiene visits and good home care are key to making your implant last.
